The Art of Slowing Down: How Urban Sketching Changed My Perspective

As a person from the fast-paced city of Hong Kong, I'm always used to rushing from one place to the next. Even when traveling, I find myself stuck in this mindset, quickly snapping photos without truly taking the time to appreciate my surroundings.
That all changed when I discovered urban sketching. This practice of capturing the world around me with pen and paper has taught me to slow down and be fully present. When I sit down to sketch a scene, I'm forced to study the intricate details - the play of light, the unique textures, the flow of the crowds. It's a meditative process that allows me to connect with my environment in a profound way.
Urban sketching has enriched my life in so many ways. Instead of rushing through my travels, I now make a conscious effort to slow down and notice the beauty in the everyday. Whether I'm capturing a vibrant market stall or the weathered facade of a historic building, this practice has transformed the way I experience the world around me. It's a skill that I know will continue to serve me well, both in my artistic pursuits and in my overall well-being.
